The NC-2A Mobile Electric Power Plant (MEPP) is a self-propelled 4-wheel ground power unit primarily used aboard ship. It is a diesel-engine driven power generator that takes over the aircraft auxiliary power units (APU) while the aircraft is on ground. Running on diesel fuel rather than aviation fuel like the APUs, the NC-2A can deliver 115/200-volt, 3-phase, 400Hz ac and 28 volts of DC electrical power to an aircraft for engine start-up and the operation of other onboard systems at a significantly lower cost with much less noise & air pollution.
